Beauty Through The Decades: 50's!

It's that time of the week again! Beauty Through The Decades. This week is the 50's and my guest blogger is Stephanie from Elegant Rebel Beauty! Let's just jump right in with Stephanie's look!

Stephanie said  "My initial plan when I snagged the 50's was to go with the iconic Marilyn Monroe look, but the more I thought about it the more I realized what an obvious choice that was, and I wanted to do something a little more unexpected.
I chose this Lucille Ball look, which was a promo for her classic show I love Lucy. The show first aired in 1951, and Lucille's portrayal of a strong-willed, mischievous housewife with a penchant for slapstick humour catapulted her into super-stardom.
She made such amazing headway for TV actresses in wife roles, who up until then were cast to basically just stand there in the kitchen and look pretty. She was outspoken and funny, which was such a huge and courageous statement for a woman to make at that time. It also doesn't hurt that her flaming red locks make her my ginger sister!"

Get The Look

Face: She applied Revlon colorstay whipped creme makeup in ivory, in two coats, to get that flawless, matte finish, followed by Painted Earth HD concealer in fair.

Eyes: She started with an off white matte (Painted earth mineral eye shadow in Toast) all over her lid to her brow bone. She added Painted earth mineral eye shadow in polished copper over the lid halfway to the brow bone. In a windshield wiper motion, she added a medium matte brown (Key botanicals mineral shadow in Hazel) to just above her natural crease, to create a higher, exaggerated crease. She then added Chickaboom jet set gel liner in black to her upper lash line, very thin from the outer corners and gradually thickening the outer half. She swept Hazel on the outer half of my lower lash line. Quo falsies and Painted Earth super lash mascara in black finished the eyes!

Brows: She drew thin, high arches with big curves, using Painted Earth super wear felt tip brow liner in blonde.

Cheeks: just a little sweep of Painted Earth baked blush in Rose Gold for subtle rosiness.

Lips: She drew a heart shape, adding two half circles above my upper lip, and a larger half circle on my lower lip, avoiding portions of the lower lip on each side, which she had applied concealer to (to make my bottom lip look longer and more narrow, which creates the bottom of the heart shape). She used Essence lip liner in Red blossom. Then she added Essence lipstick in Red carpet.

Doesn't she just look gorgeous?! Absolutely love the heart shape effect she did with her lips!

I just want to apologize now for my photos. I have been EXTREMELY busy to the point where I almost forgot to do my look :/ I didn't have a lot of time to do my look and take pictures so they aren't the greatest and I feel bad.

When I was thinking of my 50's look I had no idea what I wanted to do. Stephanie sent my a picture of Liz Taylor so that was the look I was going to try and recreate! It was out of my comfort zone because of all the eyeliner. I can't wear that much eyeliner because my eyes look extremely small and weird!

I used a thin coat of the Rimmel London Clean Finish Foundation in Soft Honey. I used the black  e.l.f. cream liner to line my upper and lower lash line and my water line. My eyelashes are naturally pretty long so I applied a few coats of my Wet N Wild Megalength mascara to enhance them. The one thing I was happy to see what Liz's thick eyebrows! It was very easy for me to do that since my eyebrows are already pretty thick! I use the e.l.f. brow kit in dark to fill in and shape my brows. Lastly for the red lips I used the Wet N Wild megalast lipstick in Red Velvet.

I again want to apologize for my photos!

I also want to thank Stephanie for being apart of the series! I loved your look. Make sure to visit her blog Elegant Rebel Beauty.

Next week we will be visiting the 60's with another guest blogger!

Blogger Spotlight: Beauty Informer!

She is the lovely blogger behind Beauty Informer!

About Patricia!
"My name is Patricia and I love to write. Among my many interests, the ones that consistently keep my passion to write alive are beauty, style, food and people. And following my heart, I created Beauty Informer."
"I love the art of makeup and learnt most of my techniques from the best YouTube gurus – makeupgeek, pixiwoo, missjessicaharlow, kandeejohnson and gossmakeupartist. I spent hours listening to and practicing techniques shared by them. I now am quite close to being as good as a professionally trained MUA. The ones who reap the benefit of my makeup skills, apart from me, are my friends, family and colleagues."
What is your blog about? & What makes it unique/special?

"When my curiosity and thirst to learn more about beauty and style kicked in, I realized there is so much information available on the internet, for free. As I started to do my research, I realized that there was some really interesting information that many people pay to know about. As I started to share my knowledge and references with people I know, I realized that many like-minded people would be happy to have the information I found.
So I created my blog as a forum to share:
  •         Beauty product reviews
  •          Beauty news
  •          DIY skincare and makeup tips
  •          Events and happenings that beauty addicts would be interested in (work in progress)

I also plan on doing my research and answering beauty queries that my readers need information around. So, feel free to write to me at beautyinformer@gmail.com to get answers to any of your beauty questions.

Please feel free to visit my blog – beautyinformer.wordpress.com

If you like my writing, please show me some love and hit subscribe or follow on my blog."

Fun facts about Patricia!

  • "My favorite color is purple."
  • "I hate pessimism and try to stay away from people who breed it."
  • "I believe in forgiving and not holding on to grudges as the only one it affects is oneself. And, I want to be happy. Happiness is the secret to extended youth and internal beauty I hear."
  • "I am trying to cut out as many chemicals as I can from my skin care routine. I am currently in love with olive oil, honey, coconut oil and Vitamin E."

Sunshine Blogger Award!

HUGE thanks to Stephanie from Elegant Rebel Beauty for nominating me for this award! Make sure to stop by her blog!

**This is my second nomination for a blog award! Tori from Notorious Beauty Blog nominated me for the Shine On award but unfortunately I was unable to pass that on however I still wanted to recognize Tori for nominating me! So thank you Tori :) Everyone make sure to stop by her blog also!**

Now onto the questions!

What is the default song you put on when you want to listen to something but don’t feel like choosing?
  • In all honesty I do not have a default song however I do have a default band that I put on when I don't feel like choosing. My default band would be Asking Alexandria. I looove them and have seen them live twice. Awesome experience!

What do you do when you’re uncomfortable in a social situation?
  • I am either very quite and awkward. If I am super uncomfortable I would most likely leave (if that is an option)
What article of clothing do you own that you know is stupid but you really like anyway?
  • My "grandpa" sweaters hahaha! I have these oversized sweaters that I purchased from the thrift store. They are completely ridiculous and don't look good on me but I love them anyway! I got them because I loved the oversized sweater look with leggings but I don't pull it off very well yet I continue to wear them!.
Do you like typing better or hand writing, and why?
  • I would have to say hand writing. I find that I get more done when I hand write things out first. Especially for school when it comes to essays it is so much easier to make corrections and add and delete things when you are hand writing out the drafts. Also whenever I try typing I quickly get distracted by the internet!
What writer would you like to believe writes in the style that you think in?
  • Lol, I have no idea.
Is time alone liberating or depressing?
  • It could definitely be both. I think it depends on the situation and why you are alone in the first place. Personally I love taking time out of the day to spend time alone.
Have you ever written a letter to someone and never given it to them?
  • Yes I have. It totally slipped my mind and never made it into the mail box! I believe there was one time I was just too lazy to go to the post office to purchase a stamp, oops.  Haha.  It's only happened once or twice. I don't write letters often.
What movie influenced you most, and was that influence psychological, aesthetic, or both?
  • This is honestly a tough question. I really don't know. I mainly only watch horror movies because that is all that truly interests me movie wise (with the exception of a few movies) but I can't say that any of the movies I have seen have influenced me.

I nominate (i'm not 100% positive if some of these bloggers have already been nominated):

Again, Thank you so much Stephanie for nominating me! (if you didn't just get nominated for this I would have totally nominated you cause I love your blog!) <3

However I didn't just want to do this by myself. I want to incorporate other bloggers! I am going to do a look for each of the decades but I would like to also feature a blogger in each post with their makeup look for that decade. Blogger Spotlight: Elegant Rebel Beauty!

She is the sweet blogger behind Elegant Rebel Beauty!

What is your blog about? & What makes your blog unique / special?

"My blog is about my journey to becoming a makeup artist. I post looks that I try on myself and others, write reviews and post photos. I also do journalistic type opinion pieces on topics like inner beauty. The main goal of my blog is to document my experiences, favourite products, looks and interesting collaborations on my way to a career in makeup artistry. It's also a chance for me to display a new aspect of my photography. All makeup and photos of me and others (except celebrities) are done by me unless otherwise stated."

When did you start blogging and why?

"I started blogging in May 2013. I'm a photographer and a freelance journalist, and I've always had a passion for cosmetics and beauty. Over the past year, I've been increasingly interested in using natural, non-toxic products. I developed a relationship with Key Botanicals (www.keybotanicals.com) and began posting looks using their makeup on my Facebook page. I had so much fun doing this, and the feedback I was getting was so positive, that I decided to once and for all chase my dream of becoming a makeup artist. The logical first step for me was to start a beauty blog. So far, it's been an amazingly fun and educational experience. I've been welcomed warmly by other beauty bloggers, and have learned so much from them. I've also learned a lot about beauty, makeup, and myself in this process, and I anticipate those lessons will just keep growing as my blog grows!"

Fun facts about Stephanie!
  • "I have a gorgeous two year old daughter, she's the light of my life!"
  • "I'm a singer-songwriter, and am currently working on material for a full-length acoustic album."
  • "I'm left handed, but I use right handed scissors and do pretty much everything but write with my right hand."
  • "I'm obsessed with karaoke and go as often as I can! My go-to songs are anything by No Doubt, Fleetwood Mac or Tom Petty."

Go on! Stop by Elegant Rebel Beauty! and show some love!

What makes your blog unique / special?

"I feel like what makes my blog special is the focus on college student beauty.
